Ward 3 Councilman David Contract has brought fresh ideas and proactive leadership while serving as Chair of the Public Works Committee, Vice Chair and member of the Finance Committee and Liaison to the Westfield Green Team and to Lifelong Westfield.
Under his leadership as Chair of the Public Works Committee, Westfield nearly tripled the number of roads paved, and his work on the Finance Committee has helped keep taxes nearly 50% lower than the prior administration. He has been integral to the Green Team’s numerous successful endeavors including the popular Free Market, and as an active liaison to Lifelong Westfield, Councilman Contract has ensured the unique concerns of our seniors are spotlighted.

Additionally, Councilman Contract has prioritized being accessible to his constituents while maintaining regular communication with Ward 3 residents. His dedication to outreach can be found in his more than 500 email and countless social media updates after every Council meeting and consistent and timely information sharing during the COVID crisis.
Beyond his volunteer role on the Town Council, Councilman Contract serves as a marketing executive for a privately held consumer products business where he led the company to 50% compound annual sales growth.
Councilman Contract is an active volunteer in various Westfield sports activities. He officiates Westfield Y swim meets and has coached his son’s basketball teams. As a member of the Unitarian Church of Summit, Contract also teaches religious school classes to elementary school students.
Councilman Contract looks forward to another term as Ward 3 Councilman to continue to identify and implement solutions that focus on quality of life issues and strengthen our downtown while continuing to maintain strong fiscal discipline.
“I love helping people and solving problems big or small. It’s what I do at work every day for my brand’s consumers and also as a Councilman. I’ve found that by working together, we can find solutions to the issues our town faces and capitalize on all of the opportunities that are in front of us.”
Councilman Contract graduated from Princeton University and received an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business. His wife — former editor-in-chief of Shape magazine — is a writer, as well as an author, editor and media consultant. Together they have three children -- an eleventh grader at Westfield High School, a seventh grader at Edison Intermediate School and a third grader at Tamaques Elementary School – as well as their dog Bodhi and cats Daisy and Hershey.
